DULWICH COLLEGE IN SHANGHAI, CHINA

The ethos of English education is now a much sought after commodity for international schools.  In 2003, BH&M were asked to be the design architects for the second school abroad to be sponsored by Dulwich College.

Dulwich College, Shanghai, will be a 3+ to 17+ mixed school which will be constructed in the Jin Qiao development zone east of Shanghai, China.  It will be built in locally sourced materials but in the English style of brick and pitched roof,  along with a clock tower reflecting the original Charles Barry (Jr) construction of Dulwich College itself (left).

It will provide a traditional English curriculum education for both English speaking expatriates and Chinese and the building will contain all facilities associated with independent education.  The rugby pitch, sited in front of the School is a happy coincidence as it already exists as the expatriate English Rugby Club and will form part of the playing fields.
