- REIGATE GRAMMAR SCHOOL, NEW DINING HALL AND KITCHENS
-
-
- A new Dining Hall and Kitchens were designed for Reigate Grammar School in 1998 as the
existing facilities had become too small, the servery was limited and the kitchen equipment needed to be replaced. The new dining space was designed to seat 300 in three sittings, during a
- one hour lunch break, to accommodate the whole school. To achieve this the Catering Consultant
carefully designed the servery and kitchen to ensure that children could be served efficiently.
-
The School required that the Dining Hall should also be designed as a 'multi use hall' which could be used for speech days, musical performances and receptions. The dining hall also had to be comfortable for 300 diners An acoustic consultant designed the internal finishes, curtains and the acoustic ceiling to achieve the various performance criterion. Blackout can be achieved with curtains and a remote controlled blind over the high level atrium window.
-
The building was constructed from handmade bricks to match the surrounding buildings. The windows and doors are a high performance aluminium double glazed system. The exposed steel trusses over the dining hall support a powder coated steel sandwich construction standing seam roof covering coloured lead grey.
-
The new Dining Hall now forms a social focus for the School with a high proportion of the children eating in this space. The Dining Hall was
- completed in May 200 and was formally opened by HRH the Duke of Gloucester in May 2001
